What happens after we die?

What scares me more than anything that when we will die we will probably just cease to exist. People say we were dead billions of years before we were born, but then we had something to look forward to even if we could not conciously Do so. And on that note the thought of an afterlife also scares me what would you do after billions of billions of years.
