How would I shorten this paragraph?

Parents make numerous sacrifices throughout their lives and the lives of their children. Parents may seem like they are giving their children a hard time, but in reality they only want what is best for them in life. An illustration of a parents sacrifices can be related to "Tillie Olsen's I Stand Here Ironing" in which a mother has hardships in raising her eldest daughter, and only wants to straighten out the problems between them. In the presence of her mother, the daughter would feel anonymous and far apart; homely. However, one day she decided to enter a talent show and finally went from a "homely" to "Somebody". In the end, her mother shows her that she loves her, and wants her to overcome the obstacles in her own life, that her mother had stumbled upon.
