Do Canadians think it's okay to refer to Asians as "Orientals?"?

In America, calling Asians "Oriental" is considered inappropriate and somewhat of a slur, but I notice that a lot of Canadians use the word "Oriental" when referring to Asian people; not in a racist or demeaning way, but casually. Why is that?
